Days of Distancing. Day 46

I have started noticing this more and more, masks hanging from rear view mirrors. In photography the masks serve as a sort of short hand for illness or disease, the thing in the image meant to point out we are living in a pandemic. But hanging from a mirror like this they have an additional sort of resonance. They have replaced other things we might normally see there.

Masks are also a sign of care for the other. When I see a mask like this, I think here is someone looking out for their neighbor. When I see someone walking around without one, I think...yeah they are someone who can't see beyond their own interests. The mask now a marker of who thinks of community and who thinks only of themselves.
