The Legendary Class of 2020
Days of Distancing. Day 63.
To the class of 2020,
I am sorry we will not get to celebrate your accomplishments,
that your senior year was cut short,
that you spent your last two months of classes at home
that there will be no graduation ceremony (at least not for now).
Know though, that many years from now when people share stories of their graduations, their stories will all be the same (or mostly so);
but you will say you were the class of 2020 and your stories will be different.
You will tell stories of how your last class didn't end with a handshake or a smile, but simply by clicking "Leave Meeting."
You will tell stories of finishing class amidst a global pandemic caring for your families and your communities, that the most important thing you could do for people was give up what you had worked for for four years.
You will tell stories of graduation parties, not large ones with classmates, but ones held on porches in the early days of spring where neighbors drove by and honked and waved, and so did strangers who just happened to be driving by, cause thats what people did.
You will tell stories of parties held at a distance, at least six feet, while you sat laughing on your front porch drinking champagne.
And you will tell stories how The Coolest Spot in Paradise was a lawn chair on the street toasting your accomplishments.
