Between the Tears.
Days of Protest. Day 6.
Days of Distancing. Day 83.
I have been to a lot of protests in my life, photographed a lot of moving moments. I have always managed to keep it together to photograph, until yesterday.
Yesterday protestors lied in the street for nine minutes, a symbolic act to recall how for nine minutes George Floyd laid on the pavement with a knee to his neck. Unlike the knee protests which are silent, during these a leader will often speak to this injustice, speak of George Floyd. When Esco Jus spoke about George Floyd not having to die, crying out for his mom, I lost it. Tears flowed, I couldn't see thru the viewfinder, couldn't brush away the tears (no face touching in Covid times). So I made this photograph without being able to see entirely what I was doing.
